Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and cachexia, abdominal swelling and pain due to ascites (a buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever.
Mesothelioma Prognosis: For many asbestosis patients the mesothelioma prognosis is maybe hopeful. Study indicate the epithelial cell type have been associated more often with a favorable prognosis. Surgical treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma is not often practical. For many asbestosis patients the mesothelioma prognosis is may be hopeful. Peritoneal mesothelioma can be difficult to stage because of its rarity. The initial symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are subtle and often ignored resulting in the cancer being more advanced. Unfortunately, patients who have been diagnosed with peritoneal or pleural mesothelioma are often advised of a grim mesothelioma prognosis, one which can often be less than one year of survival.
